Course

Göran Salerud: Biomedical Optics

Course description

5 cu

Aim:

The course should provide knowledge about the physical properties of light and its impact and interaction with biological tissue. After passing the course the student should be able to construct light-tissue interaction models and in a simulating environment be able to compare, value and argument for the relevans of different applications.

Prerequisites:

Introduction to Biomedical Engineering or Anatomy and physiology, Biomedical Signal Processing or Medical images and basic optics

Supplementary courses:

TBMT06 Project course in Biomedical Engineering (CDIO)

Course contents:

Optical properties of biological tissue. Light transport in tissue. Therapeutic window. Light transport models. Measurement of tissue optical properties. Optical coherence tomography, multi-photon excitation, flourescens, etc.
